KINTO Mobility App

KINTO Mobility App cover

Background & Objectives

KINTO is Toyota’s mobility-services brand, created to build the next generation of mobility beyond vehicle ownership. In Singapore, the new KINTO app established a strong foundation around car rental while preparing the platform for membership benefits, value-added services and future concierge offerings.

The product also gave KINTO a stronger, more independent brand presence in Singapore. From product definition to launch, the first release was scoped, designed and delivered within three months across the complete rental journey.

Role & Responsibilities

2025 Product Owner

  • Owned the product vision, scope and roadmap for the three-month launch
  • Aligned Toyota and local business stakeholders on priorities, business rules and success measures
  • Translated market insights and operational needs into product requirements and solutions
  • Defined the MVP and phased roadmap to balance launch speed with future scalability
  • Managed the product backlog, delivery trade-offs and acceptance criteria across design, engineering and operations

Business Requirements

Research showed car rental was KINTO’s strongest immediate opportunity, but local awareness lagged behind Toyota. The app offered a chance to build KINTO’s own identity.

Its core audience of business owners and professionals valued convenience, membership benefits and services beyond individual rentals. This supported KINTO’s ambition to grow into a broader mobility and lifestyle concierge.

Three business needs shaped the product:

  • Build a distinct KINTO brand beyond its association with Toyota.
  • Make rental effortless as the product’s most important and frequent use case.
  • Create value beyond rental through membership, perks and scalable service offerings.

Product Strategy

KINTO needed to launch as more than a booking tool. The product strategy increased brand visibility throughout the interface, made rental the daily anchor and used membership and services to build long-term value.

  • Integrate brand visuals throughout the UI
  • Make rental the daily anchor
  • Build long-term value beyond rental

Integrate Brand Visuals Throughout the UI

KINTO’s brand elements were deliberately given greater presence across the interface—not limited to the logo or launch screen. Repeated exposure to its colours, graphics and visual details helps customers recognise KINTO as a distinct mobility brand through everyday use.

  • Visible brand moments — Introduce branded graphics and imagery across key screens and touchpoints to create frequent, memorable exposure.
  • Consistent visual cues — Carry KINTO’s brand tagline, colours, typography and iconography through components, content and interaction details.

Make Rental the Daily Anchor

Ensure a smooth and reliable rental service. Car rental is the company’s core business and strongest acquisition driver. The product connects vehicle discovery, transparent booking, rental management, pickup and return in one coherent journey. Making every step clear and dependable helps KINTO become a go-to choice for car rental in Singapore and encourages repeat bookings.

Build daily usage through practical car utility services. The customer relationship continues after the vehicle is collected. Digital vehicle access, Shell fuel top-ups, vehicle location and other car utilities keep KINTO useful throughout every rental. Bringing frequent vehicle tasks into one place gives customers practical reasons to return each day, turning the app from a booking tool into an ongoing mobility companion.

Build Long-Term Value Beyond Rental

Rather than treating each booking as an isolated transaction, KINTO was designed to build an ongoing customer relationship. The product creates a clear path from first use to sustained engagement and loyalty, while giving the business room to expand its mobility ecosystem over time.

Performance Evaluation

The complete product was launched within three months and achieved strong adoption immediately after release:

  • 5,000 daily active users within the first three months.
  • 100% adoption among existing KINTO customers within the first three months.
  • 50% growth in membership registrations within the first three months.

The launch validated rental as the anchor experience while establishing a reusable foundation for future concierge services. The next phase should track digital access success, rental-related support contacts, repeat booking and membership-benefit redemption.
